5 Jan 2014 1:30 pm

In order to provide a platform for interaction, getting acquainted with one another, while searching for the perfect life partner and realizing the dream of marriage. We, as Voice Vision had organized a matrimonial get-together across disability on 5th January 2014 at Golden Leaf Banquet Hall, Malad West, Mumbai. The Participants present that day had joined us from various parts of the country like Delhi, Pune, Bhuj as well as from other parts of Gujarat & Maharashtra.

The event was inaugurated by a warm welcome address from Ms. Sushmeetha B. Bubna, Founder Director at Voice Vision. Followed by the welcoming speech, were a few enlightening facts about course of marriage shared by Mr. Virendra Gupta who is our Advisory Team member. He gave a few tips on how one should keep their disability aside & try to know each other’s hobbies, interests, likes & dislikes, keeping in mind our main motto of searching for a soul mate & not a disability match. He further spoke on how the risks involved in the marriage alliance are similar to all irrespective of the fact whether they disabled or non disabled.
Next in line, were our role models of the day, a happily married couple Mr. Chirag & Mrs. Mansi Kothari, both having hearing & speech impairment. They shared their real life story, right from the time they met each other to their decision of marrying each other and their life after marriage. They even spoke on how successfully they have managed the upbringing of their children, their education and lots more. The main message the aimed at giving out was that they both are leading a happy life. To convey their story to the audience effectively, we had called upon a trained interpreter also.
Mr. Bharat Chheda & Mr. Bharat Paliwal who are our Advisory Team member & Volunteer respectively introduced the prospect’s one by one, post the inspiring words of Mr. & Mrs. Kothari.
The prospects introduction was succeeded by a short experience sharing from the second role model couple for the day Dr. Preeti and Dr. Ghanshyam Sharma. Dr. Preeti shared with everyone the hardship she had to undergo after losing her eyesight, post her marriage & after the birth of her 2 kids. What kept her going through these difficult times was the support that she received from her in-laws & her husband. Initially, it was difficult for her kids to accept this fact, however, after explaining them and making them understand they accepted it with ease. Dr. Sharma too shared his side of the story & how he dealt with the entire situation.
The prospects were then clubbed into six groups & parents or guardians were made to sit in groups in another separate room. Each table seated with the prospects had moderators who were Special Educators from SNDT College. These moderators enabled communication process within their group. Six questions were posed to everyone. The prospects on each table were asked to discuss the same and post the discussion of each question, the prospects were asked to move to different tables, enabling maximum interaction with each other.
On the other side, the moderators who were allotted the parents room, enabled exchange of thoughts, queries between the parents and all the three role model couples.
Later when all the participants and parents were brought together in the same room, we had our 3rd role model couple Mrs. Monica and Mr. Dinesh Saria ready to share with us their experiences. They shared with everyone the practical solution discovered by Mr. Dinesh to search his life partner while combating his family prejudice.
The experience sharing was followed by an informal interaction wherein the floor was open for all to come forth and interact with the others.
As we moved towards the end of the session, we felicitated our 3 role model couples for enlightening us during the day, the volunteers for their priceless efforts and the sponsors for the venue & snacks. We ended the day with a vote of thanks from Ms. Bubna.
We would like to thank all the 43 prospects having either of visual, speech, hearing, limb or any other physical impairment for believing in us and the platform provided by us.
