VOICE VISION TURNS 15 On 1st May 2015, Smt. Kamla Mehta School played host to Voice Vision for the latter’s 15th Anniversary celebrations. Ms. Manjari, a volunteer, got the proceedings under way with her welcome address. She briefed the guests and the dignitaries about Voice Vision and its projects and later introduced the esteemed speakers gracing the occasion. Ms. Kalpana Kharade, the vice principal of Somaiya College and Mr. Vishal Agarwal, an MBA working with the Standard Chartered Bank were to enlighten the spectators. Ms Kalpana in her address stressed upon the importance of education in her career. She gave the importance of 5C’s i.e. Courage, Conviction, Confidence, Commitment and Collaboration Mr. Vishal Agarwal spoke about the hardships he faced while looking for a job, despite of having an MBA degree from a reputed institute and clearing various on campus job interviews. His disability was always seen by others as a hindrance. He also spoke about the motivation and guidance he received from his family. After the inspiring words delivered by these dignitaries, it was time to felicitate the bright young minds by presenting them with the Voice Vision Scholarship 2015. Ms. Savita Nikam and Ms. Madhavi Ghevade were the new recipients of the scholarship. Mr. Harsha, the recipient of previous year’s scholarship got his scholarship extended due to his scintillating performance. Next on the cards was an accessible musical housie to keep the people entertained. Three types of housie tickets were prepared one in large print, another one with braille and large print, the third type was sighted print embossed to be read by visually impaired participants. Participants were provided with toothpicks and round stickers to facilitate marking their housie tickets. As the numbers were called out, the participants were expected to guess the associated words and sing suitable Bollywood songs related to them. This act of guessing and singing was thoroughly enjoyed by all the participants present there. And last but not the least, there emerged winners for the quick five, the three lines and the ultimate full house. The organisers had arranged for some special treats for all the participants in the form of various stalls. People thronged these stalls which hosted a plethora of games like Lifting the brick, Rubber Band & Pin Chain, 7 Up & 7 Down, Straw in the Hair, Knot Tying on rope, Breaking the glass pyramid, etc. The 50 participants, who joined Voice Vision to wish them on their anniversary, enjoyed it to the fullest. Some of the partakers were kind enough to have words of encouragement and appreciation for us: Mr. Shakir bashir nayak – “Entertaining seen for the first time.” Ms. Farzana lohia – “All games were good & accessible. “ Ms. Kashifa lohia – “Good experience, great fun and entertainment.” It gives us a great pleasure to say that we achieved our aim of creating awareness amongst people about the various games and sources of entertainment for the impaired through a fun and entertaining medium while giving them a chance to find some new friends and revisit some beautiful memories with the old ones. We would like to extend our gratitude towards our scholarship sponsors, Mr. Dalchand Gupta & Mrs. Remila from Taksheel foundation, for showing their support and enabling us to honour the deserving students. We thank all our 50 participants, especially those coming from Amravati and various other places far from Mumbai, for believing in us and making the event a grand success. Once again we would like to thank our hosts, Smt. Kamla Mehta School and to all the volunteers for their extraordinary and prompt support. Special gratitude to Advisory Board member Ms.Nidhi Goyal and Mr. Suhas Kelkar, for their support in co-organizing the event.
