The 2nd Entrepreneurial Idea Award enabling visually impaired to be job creators rather than job seekers.
Voice Vision constituted the “Entrepreneurial Idea Award 2019” for persons with visual impairment through three months process. Aiming to enable disabled to actually start their business and create jobs rather than seek jobs.
The process began with inviting visually impaired to register their business ideas (in any stage such as ideation, prototype or existing business) in September. In the month of October 13 ideas were shortlisted. From 1st week of November each participant was mapped with MBA students from Somaiya college.
Three days mentorship workshop was organized from 11 to 13 November for all participants and MBA students. Which was kicked off with sensitisation of all students towards ways to treat and interact with visually impaired. Followed with sessions like Sources of finance conducted by CA Sunil Patodia. Later came CA Alpa Kuwadia shared insight about Legal registrations and compliances. Where in Mr. Sreeraman Tiangarajan spoke about marketing and designing user centric solution.
Day 2 each team discussed their ideas, ways to move further and SIMSR professor and founder of Voice Vision mentored them how they can take their idea to next level.
Day 3 Mr. Anshul Dave investor interacted with all about ways to evaluate an idea. Followed by Mr. Rohit Onkar sharing about social media marketing and its importance. We had Mr. TERRY, CHIEF INNOVATOR OFFICER, ENACTUS INDIA, came from New York conducted hands-on workshop on designing a pitch for the entrepreneur’s idea.
Post this mentoring session each team were aligned with specific mentors from various fields such as marketing finance, investors, etc. They then prepared their business model and pitch for the final award day.
Mumbai, India- December 1, 2019- The Second Entrepreneurial Idea Award took place at Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (SIMSR). The event began with Ms. Asha Bhatia, the head of SIMSR and Ms. Sushmeetha Bubna, the founder director of Voice Vision sharing insight on why and how the project was conceptualized and executed.
This was followed by the 13 teams pitching their ideas and business models in 5 minutes to a jury which consisted of Mr. Upendra Namburi (Investor, Founder of Idea Earth), Mr. Siddharth Somaiya (Investor, founder of Organic Riot), Mr. Prashant Issar (Co-founder Ishaara Restaurant, Palladium) and Lion CA Subhash Udaipuri (stock broker).
After all the pitches, the mentors and jury were felicitated which was followed by the felicitation/ thanking all the sponsors – Rasna International, Lion’s Club International, Choice International, Byke Hospitality, Samank Consumer Products, JAMM’s, SNS, Newz Hook, Rotaract Club of Mumbai Sky City, Rotaract Club of Northern Suburbs and the 25+ Rotaract Clubs across Asia.
After the felicitation was done, the jury selected the three winners of the Entrepreneurial Idea Award who were rewarded with cash prizes.
First place of Rs. 51,000/- sponsored by Rasna International. Was awarded to Mr. Prathamesh Bendre who pitched his idea of ‘Shayar Dost’, a concept of personalized gifts based around poems, songs and letters.
Ms. Dipti Kale who pitched an idea to expand her existing beauty parlor won the 2nd prize of Rs. 31,000/- sponsored by various clubs of Lions International Club district 3231 A3. The 3rd place sponsored by Choice International Ltd, The Byke Hospitality, Samank Consumer products comprising of Rs. 21,000/- was awarded to Mr. Vijaykumar Kasivel and his idea of a sensor to help the visually impaired swim were chosen.
After these 3 participants were awarded, a surprise seed funding of rupees one lakh was announced for Souravjeet Paswan, a participant came from Patna, Bihar who wanted to expand his business of chemical-free housekeeping products.
The event ended with a vote of thanks to the mentors, participants, jury members, guests, audience, investors and everyone who worked to make the Entrepreneurial Idea Award 2019 a success story.
For us, this is not the end, but a beginning. Where we see a couple of our participants actually start their business and bring a difference to their own and many other lives.
